To Conquer Burnout, Do the Unthinkable

When I was younger, the burning out seemed to be a complete myth.

I would sit and ponder how someone could lose inspiration or drive to do the thing that provides joy to their lives. Growing up, there was never the stress or the competition of providing something no one had ever heard of before.

That is, until I grew up.

As my age continued to increase, so did my need to outperform my latest piece and push my mind to an ability it was not used to. Some nights I worked from dusk till dawn, yet eventually I found a daily routine. What I thought I’d never experience actually started becoming true.

In this post, I’ll show you ways to conquer the challenges of burnout you might be facing, and how to come back stronger than before.

6 Organizational Habits That Also Benefit Writers

Writing means freedom to many people, especially individuals transitioning from the corporate environment to freelance writing.

It’s freedom from all the corporate policies that come with an organization—don’t forget customer complaints and pressure from top executives.

That is what I thought after I was given the ax by my former employer and jumped into freelance writing full-time. Instead of feeling anger and disillusionment, I felt a sigh of relief.

Finally, I would be away from all the corporate impositions that governed my day-to-day activities, such as hard-to-hit targets, several admin tools to use, and even training days that required me to be away from home.

So the first thing I did when I got laid off was to exit chat rooms and work-related messaging apps and flew into freelance writing.

But as I got deeper into writing and freelancing, I came to realize that the organizational practices that I despised and trampled weren’t all that bad. In fact, they help maintain sanity in the workplace and in an individual.

How Traveling Can Be More Than Just a Trip Away For Writers

There’s nothing quite like traveling. Everyone loves warmer climates, exciting new adventures, and experiences abroad. Right?

Well, I do. Obviously, I can’t vouch for everyone, but I’m sure the vast majority out there would tend to agree with me. Strawberry daiquiris and ice-cream sundaes all around! What’s not to like?

But, (cough), excuse me just one second. Can I have all writers’ attention for a moment, please?

I hate to be the one to interrupt a snappy glass of red and platter of sushi. Where are my manners? But I’ve gotta put this out there before you get a little dizzy from the red stuff:

Traveling can be a lot more than just enjoying the luxury of eating saffron scallops at a four-star restaurant in Paris, or stuffing your face with toasted marshmallows around a campfire in Miyajima. For writers, there’s so much more to it than that.

As a writer, traveling has been a great opportunity to come up with something fresh for blogs, websites, or publications I’ve submitted articles to.

When you travel, you can take stacks of inspiration and creativity from your travels for your next writing project.

You should write about it, in fact.

Our Favorite Content of 2019

It’s the end of the decade. Can you believe it?

The last 10 years have been so full of books, movies, television shows, podcasts, and other widely creative content that it’s a wonder we all haven’t gone comatose from sleep deprivation (though we most certainly are sleep-deprived).

While everyone seems to be doing their “top 10 of the decade” lists, we’ve stuck to just 2019 to save you a few dozen scrolls of the page.

Without further ado, here’s Craft Your Content’s fourth annual roundup of our favorite content from the past year.
