4 Unconventional Ways to Find Writing Inspiration

If you love to write, then you understand the struggle to constantly find inspiration that will take you to greater heights.

When you Google the phrase “writing inspiration,” you will be bombarded with all manner of links on quotes, helpful aids, ideas, and case studies that will help you find inspiration as a writer.

I work as a full-time professional freelance writer. More often than not, I have to come up with my own ideas – from scratch. In all honesty, that is the worst part of my job.

Because of the sheer volume of articles that I tend to handle on a monthly basis, there comes a time when my brain just goes on strike. When that happens, everything comes to a screeching halt. No longer will ideas flow in my head. Even with subjects I write about on a regular basis, I get nothing.

Zilch.

Embracing Non-Fiction: 3 Reasons Why I Read on Writing

I have read at least 30 books for each year I have been alive. And that’s just a conservative estimate.

Some people drink. Others party.

I read.

Reading is my escape from the world when things get tough. It also happens to be my most enjoyable pastime. This is something I have been doing since I was a young girl struggling to grasp the English language, and I do not see myself giving it up anytime soon.

And yet, despite constantly reading books for as long as I have been literate (which is as far back as I can remember), it’s only in the past two years that I have truly embraced nonfiction. Prior to that, 99.9 percent of all the books that I read were fiction.

So what changed?
