Another year, another sprint to the finish line. Amiright?

As we tentatively returned to our “new normal” lives this year, the content we consumed ended up reflecting what we needed out of it. For some, that meant books that fed our escapism or media that broke up the monotony of our daily lives with something fresh and different. For others, it meant content that satisfied a craving for knowledge or taught us something new.

That’s the beauty of art. There is a book, podcast, movie, or show out there for us no matter what we’re looking for. Something that every person on this planet can connect with, learn from, and feel at home in.

If you’re like us, maybe you dealt with the never-ending spiral of badness that was 2020 by consuming a ridiculous amount of content … or maybe you just doomscrolled Twitter and binged Netflix. 

We’re not judging! 

As you’ll see, a lot of us didn’t get to do all the reading/listening/watching we thought we would. (Perhaps you find yourself in this vast expanse of people who had lofty plans in early pandemic days that didn’t quite work out how you thought by year-end.)

Our Favorite Content of 2019

It’s the end of the decade. Can you believe it? 

The last 10 years have been so full of books, movies, television shows, podcasts, and other widely creative content that it’s a wonder we all haven’t gone comatose from sleep deprivation (though we most certainly are sleep-deprived).

While everyone seems to be doing their “top 10 of the decade” lists, we’ve stuck to just 2019 to save you a few dozen scrolls of the page.

As a collective of freelancers who literally live and breathe content, we always have recommendations to give. While we always have our year-end roundup of books, this year, with the relaunch of Writers’ Rough Drafts, we decided to add podcasts to the mix.

As is CYC roundup tradition, we’ve each chosen our top two pieces of content that we consumed this year and written a bit about it. Of course, we have those honorable mentions that we all slip in at the end.
